During these times of isolation, it’s not easy to differentiate between work and personal life as they live in the same space. At least for me they do. I live in a one bedroom, one bath condo, 600 square feet so the last four months have been rough to be able to separate work and life.
I know I am not alone with these thoughts and feelings. I can only imagine having children and the added stress to keep them entertained and/or school work.
I had to carve out a space in my home to be able to work and be productive. 👩🏽💻 The space has evolved between March 2020 to August 2020. Here is the current space:
I had to create set boundaries and set a schedule for during the work week. As you all now know, my baby girl Penelope, who brings me a lot of joy, has been one of the best reasons to break up the day. ❤️🐶 She is my source of comfort and distraction. As I need to take her out to go potty 😂😂, we got out before work, during lunch time, after work and before bedtime. The walk during the work day gives me the opportunity to walk around the neighborhood, take some fresh air and get some steps. 🦮🏃🏽♀️
Another thing I did to break up the work day was to exercise. I was doing pilates and barre3 sometimes during lunch or after work. I was doing classes 2 to 3 times a week and wow did I see some changes. BUT this last month, July 2020, I took a break and man it was no bueno. Getting back is a bit harder. I am back doing barre3 classes and starting to get back in the groove of things. 🧘🏽♀️🏋🏽♀️
Finally, and most importantly, scheduling time to talk to my parents and my friends on a weekly basis (virtually). 💖 I do talk to my parents a couple times a week but being able to FaceTime was a nice distraction to see their faces. With my friends, we would have happy hours to catch up which then turned into trivia nights. Those days would be the most fun and create a distraction of all that was happening in this world! It did make the weeks go by quicker as I knew I would get to see my fave people’s faces and have fun (even if virtual).
What I have learned in the last 4 – 5 months working from home and what I can share with you is to SET BOUNDARIES! We cannot let work consume us as our health and well being should always be our priority. We want to make sure we are in our best state of mind to take care of our loves ones.
